I haven't seen Tofanelli in Dallas for a long time, this week a small amount of Prtite Sirah and Zinfandel arrived at the store. The Petite has aromas of raspberry, cedar and violets, leading to notes of red and black fruits, tobacco, coffee, spice and clove. The wine is big and chewy, with dry firm tannins, and a long finish.

This Cabernet has 15% Petit Verdot added, which adds a dimension or layer of flavor. Mint, raspberry, cedar, dried herbs, tobacco and floral notes prevail in both flavor and aroma. Chateau Boswell 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve

This was a little treat for myself, while I was on vacation last month. It was the best bottle of Cabernet that I have had this year. The wine was big, bold, intense and complex, with a finish that just would not quit. Packed with deep berry and cherry notes, with chocolate, vanilla, coffee, anise, spice and slightly toasty oak tones. I hope that I get to taste this one again, in say, 10 or 15 years, the wine is a baby at this point. If you find this one (good luck with that, only 200 cases made, and sold in three retail shops in the country) expect to pay about $160.

Chateau Puygueraud 2008 Francs - Cotes de Bordeaux

This wine is made with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec. Wine packs a fair amount of power and depth, more so than many from the 2008 vintage. Black cherry, plum, graphite, tobacco, spice and anise notes fill both nose and palate. Somewhat tannic for a wine with this much Merlot in the blend, but not overly so. Good balance and length with nice earth and toasty tones on the finish. $19.99

Agostina Pieri 2010 Rosso di Montalcino

Made 100% from Sangiovese Grosso, and 100% Brunello vineyards, this wine could be labeled as Brunello and sell for two or three times the money. The wine offers cherry and berry fruit tones with hints of cedar, anise, tobacco, plum and spice. It is all put together amazingly well for a wine that sells for less than $25 a bottle. Always one of my favorite wines each year to enjoy with a big bowl of pasta. $22.99

Ferrer Bobet 2007 Priorat

"The 2007 Ferrer/Bobet is a bit lighter in color displaying aromas of cherry blossom, spicy red fruits, incense, and red licorice. It deftly combines elegance with the power inherent in first class Priorat and will offer a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2022 if not longer. Ferrer/Bobet is the future showplace of Priorat.  Sergi Ferrer-Salat is a young pharmaceutical tycoon with apparently a much greater interest in fine wine than drugs, while his partner Raul Bobet was the long-time winemaker at Torres. Ferrer-Salat makes it clear that his goal is to make the greatest wine possible without regard to whether he makes money. I’m not sure if Bobet would totally agree, but it appears that he is up for the challenge. As for the wines, they are currently made from purchased fruit as the Ferrer-Bobet vineyards are still very young. However, money talks and the winery has been able to access great old-vine Carignan and Grenache fruit, enough so that they might have some difficulty surpassing what they have already achieved when their vineyard matures. Currently two wines are made, the Ferrer/Bobet cuvee and the Seleccio Especial." 94 pts. Robert Parker, Jr. $49.99

Happy Canyon Vineyard 2010 Merlot

This is the first in a new series of wines from Happy Canyon. The Merlot is rich and well balanced, offering lush cherry and berry flavors, followed by chocolate notes and sweet oak on the finish. The wine has good concentration, complexity and structure, with fine tannins and a long finish. It's young so give it some air, but it is drinkable now. $22.99

Drew 2010 Pinot Noir, Fog Eater

A more classic Pinot Noir, the Fog Eater, has good fruit, nice complexity, and grace. Flavors and aromas are of ripe cherries, raspberry, fig, fresh herbs, earth and spice. The wine is well balanced, has great structure, and is very complex, this a just a superb pinot. Less than 200 cases made.  $38.99

Steele 2010 Pinot Blanc, Bien Nacido

Steele does this Pinot Blanc in neutral oak barrels, which helps give the wine more depth, richness and a creamy texture. Peaches, melon, green apple and tropical notes flow in both aromas and flavors. There is a hint of nuts and cream on the palate, with good acid on the finish. Try this one with grilled fish and smoked turkey. $14.99

Writer's Block 2009 Santa Barbara Pinot Noir

The 2009 Pinot Noir is the best effort from Writer's Block to date. The wine is bright and rich, with deep cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. There are nice spicy undertones(cinnamon) and hints of tobacco, coffee and oak. $15.99

Domaine Marc Morey 2009 Chassagne - Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers

2009 was an outstanding vintage in Burgundy, and so to for producer Marc Morey. The Les Vergers is both rich and vibrant, with flavors of apples, pears, toasted bread and citrus notes. While the wine is somewhat robust, it is balanced beautifully with bright acidity. $77.99

Gonnet Cotes Du Rhone Blanc 2011

The wine 90% Voigneir, done in stainless steel, and the Gonnet family uses strictly bio dynamic and organic practices. Aromas and flavors are of flower blossoms, white peaches, apricots and citrus. Domaine Ehrhart Pinot Auxerrois 2010

The Ehrhart family has been farming this vineyard since 1725, in the small village of Wettolsheim, in Alsace. Pinot Auxerrois is a close cousin to Pinot Blanc, and offers wonderfully fresh stone fruit flavors, with hints of minerals, green apples and citrus. The wine is quite mouth filling, with a long fresh finish and nice acidity. $14.99

Neyers 2010 Pinot Noir Roberts Road

This is the first Pinot Noir that we have received from Bruce Neyers, it was worth the wait. Chateau Guiot 2011 Rose'

The 2011 is 85% Grenache with the remainder split between Syrah and Mourvedre. A intense cherry tone is present in the nose and on the palate, with underlying notes of sweet berries, spice and minerals.
